NSW: Girl, 12, approached by man: police

SYDNEY, Aug 17 AAP - A 12-year-old girl has been approached by a man who repeatedly
tried to coax her into his car in southwest Sydney, police say.

The youngster was walking along Charles Street at Liverpool about 11am (AEST) on Sunday
when a man driving a white Toyota Corolla began waving at her.

"The girl did not respond and the car continued for a short distance before stopping
and quickly reversing backwards for about 100 metres on the wrong side of the road to
her position," police said in a statement.

"The man began to speak with the girl before allegedly trying to coax her into his
car three times.

"The child refused before walking away and calling her mother."

Police want to speak with the man who is described as being of Middle Eastern appearance,
about 40, with shaved black hair but an unshaven face.

At the time of the incident, the man wore a dark blue t-shirt.

Anyone with information about the man or who witnessed the girl allegedly being approach,
should contact police.
