NSW: Woman killed in highway smash

SYDNEY, Aug 18 AAP - Police are appealing for witnesses to a horror highway smash on
the NSW north coast between a car and semi trailer in which a young woman died.

The head-on collision occurred about 5.45pm (AEST) yesterday on the Pacific Highway
north of Grafton.

Police have been told a Holden sedan was turning right from the northbound side of
the Pacific Highway into Watts Road.

A front seat passenger in the sedan, a 22-year-old Yamba woman, died at the scene.

The 27-year-old male driver was airlifted to Lismore Base Hospital with serious injuries.

The 48-year-old truck driver was taken to Maclean Hospital and treated for shock.

A southbound lane of the Pacific Highway was closed for about four hours.
