Fed: Labor gets govt to pick up its policies, says Beazley
CANBERRA, Dec 11 AAP - Federal Labor had recorded a good year in politics with the
government now picking up Labor policies, opposition leader Kim Beazley said today.
Mr Beazley told Radio 3AW in Melbourne this morning that he had succeeded in getting
others, including the government, to talk about Labor's issues.
"At the beginning of this year it was all about tax cuts and tax and we said the priority
issue in this country now is national investment in our regions, in our education system,
in innovation in business and in public hospitals," he said.
"What's the debate in Australia about now? It's about innovation in business, investment
in education, public hospitals.
"We've moved away from an endless discussion about tax cuts, which is what the government
had us in and wanted us to be in."
Mr Beazley said Labor had been arguing for a couple of years that there were major
deficiencies in services and in the underpinnings needed for a successful economy.
"We were there first. We were there firstest with the mostest," he said.
