Qld: Bligh calls Queensland election for March 21

BRISBANE, Feb 23 AAP - Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says the global financial crisis
compelled her to call an early election for March 21.

Ms Bligh on Monday formally asked Queensland Governor Penny Wensley to dissolve parliament
- which was due to sit this week - and hold an election on March 21.

The election was not due until September, but announcing the date on her website, Ms
Bligh said she had no choice given the deteriorating economic circumstances.
